WHO WE ARE.
Sunshine was established in 1974 by dedicated parents to provide a social and work environment for adults with developmental disabilities. Initially a facility-based service model, Sunshine evolved over the years to include a wood shop and various employment opportunities. In 2008, a lawsuit highlighted the need for community integration, leading Sunshine to shift towards "community-based services."
By 2017, Sunshine had successfully adapted to the new paradigm, expanding its fleet, staff, and client base, and significantly increasing its revenue. Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19 and significant financial losses, Sunshine's resilience and support from grants enabled it to recover and continue serving its community. In July 2022, a leadership transition opened new possibilities for the organization's future.
